Kratom and liver
Hallo everyone, I take Kratom now since 2 month. Its great and helps a lot. Suddenly my GGT is 165 (instead of maximum 55). I never had a problem with my liver. Does anyone know, weather Kratom can influence the liver. Thx Karl :)
I am not scientist but I did see something on the forum recently about blood tests. I don't get tested regularly enough to comment personally. http://theakaforum.com/Thread?Kratom-in-the-Media/Sciency/Evaluating-the-hematological-clinical-chemistry-parameters-of-kratom-Mitragyna-s&pid=1356#pid1356

Elevated GGT levels could be caused by a number of complicating factors unrelated to Kratom, i.e. other medications or lifestyle. However, constipation can be a side effect of Kratom if one doesn't drink enough fluids. This might possibly be a factor in elevated GGT levels. So I personally drink herbal teas and quite a bit of water throughout the day. In addition, I eat a small bowl of oatmeal for "desert" after dinner each night to further help support a healthy morning movement. This and dosing Kratom responsibly (I usually take anywhere between 1 teaspoon and 1 1/2, twice daily) results in a happy liver for me.  I hope I was able to help. All my best to you! Funny
thx funny girl again - Carl :)
The studies seem to show no direct link to any other hematological problems, there does seem to affect cholesteral. Taking it easy on the fats is always good for you anyway and Funnys suggestion of the oatmeal would help with that as well as ahem, other issues as she points out. Keep us informed of how you are doing. Itza has a better grasp of the science and physiology than I , she will probably chime in on this.
All I can say is I've interacted with many, many Kratom users who've been using Kratom for 10+ years and have blood work done regularly. All have claimed no increase in liver levels. Take that for what's it worth. Many things can effect the liver, so think hard about what else you're putting into your body.

For myself, my own story ( part of), is for the first time in over 15 years, my blood work has finally gotten out from under the critically low ranges. I have my blood work done every month,  for critical vitamin D levels. But because of the meds that I have had to take due to the fragility of my bones, my liver is watched extremely close!  I also am battling my 10th bout of osteomyletis and I am starting  cipro all over, at least it's by mouth right now and not a pic line.  If I have to have a pic line again, well we may have a heated discussion.  Due to my education,  I was a 3rd year med school student when I had to take a medical leave of absence and was never able to return ( so I am not a doctor, can't and won't give advice to others), but I can decipher enough for my own decisions about MY health care, knowing all of my issues.  I hope that this helps you some. There's a lot of information out there on kratom,  on Medline abstracts and all types of places. Look up Dr Henningfields published info. I believe that Dr Bulpher ( I know I'm wrong on her name. She's a Canada scientists and adjunct professor at the university of British Columbia) one of the 4 scientists that just did a rebuke of FDA info. Please let me know if I can get you any info as I have quite a bit
I have not seen any evidence suggesting kratom is toxic to the liver. Most substances get filtered through the liver, so overdoing anything be it drugs or herbs could potentially stress the liver. I personally find kratom to rather mild and gentle on the body relatively speaking. I just had my blood work done and liver enzymes were normal. I have heard many people actually seeing more health improvements since taking kratom that has shown up in lab results.
Just think of the amount of processed food chemicals that get pushed through peoples livers everyday. Biz, twist and I know a lot of the same people that been utilizing this herb for over a decade with no issue
Another liver detox and single handily THE BEST superfood on the market today is: “Spirulina” and “Chlorella” now these green algae’s are primarily from Asia. What I found though is that most of these products come from China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. China producing the most because it’s the cheapest. You need to source these (2) algae’s from Taiwan as there its the cleanest. They found especially in China that Chinese algae has extremely high concentrations of aluminum and radiation. Taiwan has the least. If you buy these products from “Healthforce Nutritionals” (on amazon) they actually grow the algae in tanks so it has little to no contamination. But do some research of your own on these products. Some amazing stuff Also, don’t fall for “USDA certified organic” they don’t test for metals such as lead, mercury, aluminum and radiation so that’s why they call it organic because it’s nkt tested. These greens are ground breaking for health. It’s optimal to have a healthy lifestyle while incorporating these supplements. Don’t e pest to eat fast food 3X a week or junk food and take these type of supplements and expect to be healthy. I find it fascinating how people treat their diets and have their hands up on the air confused as to why they have conditions. I’m not necessarily talking about things like cancer and leukemia but conditions like IBS, obesity, cholesterol, diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, gout, arthritis, etc. almost all mild to moderate conditions can be treated with diet changes. There’s even arguments it can prevent more serious illnesses.
Hello my friends! So I am taking now 1 teaspon of Kratom every day and my liver is ok. I am happy - it helps me a lot. Karl

Thank you Itzawist ;) Karl
nice Karl! i may have missed an earlier post but what is your reason for utilizing kratom? (addiction, pain, depression, social?) twist and myself know many folks using this plant for over a decade with no problems caused by kratom
Hi Rob, its depression and if I take one spoonful a day iand ts very very good for me. I feel happy like I have been as a young man of 20 years (now I am 55). I am working much better, I am better at sports  and I feel well. Karl

Glad to hear you are doing better Karl! All’s well that ends well and it seems you are doing very well…glad the liver scare has worked itself out and you have found that kratom was not the cause....sound like you have figured out a proper schedule and strain for your lifestyle. Please remember to rotate your strains occasionally as well...this will keep you where you want to be. Please keep in contact!
So just to share some feedback on my particular story. I did a full panel of lab work. Liver, kidney, adrenal, thyroid, testosterone, growth hormone, blood cells, cholesterol, etc. I’m 35 and was a addict for the better part of 10 years. Been burning kratom non stop for over 4 years without a break. Everything came back above average in a healthy way. He said I’m the perfect patient. Certain levels were better than what a typical 35 year old would be. What’s awesome is my cholesterol was 310 a few years back before going vegan. 3 years later it’s 150. My point is, 4 straight years of a 20g daily average has produced no harm to the liver. I’ve actually become healthier. (Not necessarily from kratom, primarily diet)

@'dimlyFourOwls': > I'm in that category. My liver enzymes have always been fine. To be completely honest, my liver enzymes were slightly elevated several years ago. Be aware that liver enzymes can bounce transiently up or down so my doc ran a series of 3 liver panels over about a month & a half time frame & all three tests were elevated. This was about a month before I came back to kratom (yes, kratom has saved me twice … so far). Fast forward to a week ago, I just finished yet another series of three liver function tests & all three were well within normal.  Considering the lab is where I have lived much of my life I fully comprehend how important this is to my health & well-being. Kratom has given me yet another chance.
