Aphids tended to by a couple of ants. The ants move the aphids to newer tender leaves and guard them. In return, the ants are rewarded with the sweet sticky honeydew that is exuded from the sap-sucking aphid's bodies.

Curious as to if you have aphids? Look for ANY ants on the trunk. Follow them to the aphids, and locally control the problem. Soapy water with a dash of neem oil works wonders, or a light diatomaceous earth dusting. (kills the ants as well as the aphids)
