Hello
My name is Michelle. I am a new member and new to Krotam.  What I am not new at is pain.  I have lived in pain for more than 30 years.  I have been prescribed all sorts of medications including opoiods and vitimins.  One doctor wanted me to pay not-covered IV treatments.  Eventually I stopped seeing the doctor because every appointment turned into me listening to a sales pitch. I have gone to Chiropractors, Accupuncturists and M.D.s.  What helped me the most was OxyContin. I liked it because I had real pain relief without being made stoned or high.  I started on it in 2008 and went off it in 2015.  I went off because of the constant attacks on the medication and those who take it.  Suddenly I was a drug addict and worthless.  I tried to get Purdue Pharma to stand up to the attacks, but they did the opposite.  They announced that they were the devil and we who take thier drugs are akin to the devil.  I quit using OxyContin and went on Morphine Sulphate EF - similar to  OxyContin, but much less effective.  I did though in anticiapation of changing to a new drug. The drug is Buprenorphine in a seven day patch. I ended up being aleargic to the patch which was devestating. I had put all of my hopes on that patch.  So I ended up on a different form of the same medication.  This time in the form of a strip of plastic that contains the medication.  Suboxone. Yes, it is known to be a medication used for people going off of opoiods.  What I have found is that it is in no way as strong as OxyContin or even Norco.  So I have take 4 each day.  Still not strong enough. I tried Kratom a month ago.  In order to give it a chance, I stopped my precription meds and just took Kratom for more than a week.  By the end of the week, it should have been helping but I found no help.  I wondered if the guy I bought it from sold me old herbs.  I asked him nicely if this was the case. He mailed me some different stuff.  I don't know.  I would love to hear from folks as to which is best for serious and constant pain and what I should expect to feel.  Thanks to all!
I am sure many more will chime in on this as there are many that use it for pain on this forum…..kratom is very strain, dose and physiology dependent. To give others a head start.....what kind of pain? Caused by? What strain of kratom have you started with......what amount are you taking and how are you taking it? Kratom is amazing but can take some “tweaking” to get the best effect. While you are waiting for more input you should browse around the threads and see what is being done......research and knowledge is power. By the way welcome to the forum!
Hi Michelle. If you went from taking all of those meds, to suboxone then immediately to kratom, you may need to give kratom a little more time as it’s no match for OC in pain management. It will provide relief but it is a mild herb with many benefits. Try staying with it for a few weeks to let your body acclimate to this new herb and let your body clear out the garbage
As Rob said, I would think after OC and then Suboxone, that Kratom is probably just keeping withdrawals at bay and not doing much else right now. I'm not sure how you could have been on all those opioids and not have some withdrawal when you stop. If so, you're very lucky but I'd keep that in consideration. Rob and I speak from experience….OC and Subs are very hard to stop cold turkey with no repercussions and the Kratom might just be masking that right now. You'll need time to get past that before you get the full benefits from Kratom. I don't know your full story, so I'm not assuming anything, but just throwing that out there....

Hello Michelle, Kratom is no substitute to Norco or other prescription meds. I also stopped taking Norco's because of the dirty looks I would get from doctors and pharmacists, who just assumed I was abusing them. Plus, I wanted to not be dependent on doctors and 'specialists'. I started kratom about two years ago and haven't had any prescription meds for pain since. I do occasionally add an OTC pain reliever if my back starts to seize up, but only rarely now. I remember the first few times I took kratom and thought, 'what's the big deal, I am still in pain?' But fortunately I stuck with the regiment and a couple of weeks later I was working and realized I hadn't noticed my back pain in a couple of days. Which was unusual, since it had almost become an every '3-4 hours gotta have my pill(s)' thing. I took me about 6 months of experimenting with different strains of kratom until I finally found one that worked consistently. It will take time, but I am so glad I stuck with it. Like I said before, kratom isn't going to give you that warm, no pain feeling that prescription meds will give, but it will give you pain relief and a new sense of self-worth, knowing that YOU are in control of your pain and not dependent on doctors, pharmacists or quacks. I have also found that this board is full of people just like you and are more than willing to help via the board or PM's. Take care.
Hello and welcome! I'm also new here and I completely agree with above post. You definitely have to try different strains, veins, amounts, etc. For me personally…red's are the most helpful for my pain. Good luck and never give up!
